The Olympia Sports Foundation
The Olympia Sports Foundation has been established by regional sporting good retailer Olympia Sports on its 25th Anniversary. Olympia's Board of Directors, headquartered in Westbrook, Maine, has founded this private, nonprofit Foundation. Olympia Sports has a long standing reputation for supporting charitable events throughout the Northeast. In addition to Olympia's historical and ongoing charitable contributions, the Foundation will allow Olympia Sports to direct a percentage of its profits and efforts toward specific charitable projects within its geographic retail region.
Corporate CEO Ed Manganello and his wife Marie, along with Accounting Manager Patty Zub, a twenty year veteran for Olympia Sports, will coordinate the activities of the Foundation. They will be working with Olympia's vendors and other outside sources to secure supporting donations and volunteer involvement. The first endeavor of the Foundation will be to establish a clothing bank at the Westbrook corporate office. An assortment of new clothing will be provided by Olympia Sports in partnership with other donors. Initially, this clothing will be distributed to individuals or families in need of assistance in Southern Maine. It is hoped that the Foundation will continue to grow in scope and magnitude over the coming years to help those in need throughout the Northeast..
As coordinator, Patty Zub will be working to identify individuals with the greatest needs in cooperation with various churches, municipalities, schools and other charitable organizations, providing them with information on sponsoring recipients and assisting them in the application process. A core group of volunteers from Olympia Sports will process the applications and direct the distribution of the requested clothing to the intended recipients.
